AFRICAN SCOUTS DAY - ARUSHA TANZANIA



After the successful holding of the All celebrations in Angola, Burundi, Ethiopia, Swaziland, Uganda and Ghana in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively, next year’s Africa Scout Day celebrations will be held between 8th to 11th March, 2017 in Arusha, Tanzania ; hosted by the Tanzania Scouts Association.

The event will bring together Scouts from different countries in Africa and beyond for a 3-day camp; during which they will undertake numerous learning and community service activities.

Participation at this event in Arusha, Tanzania should in no way prevent your NSO from organizing a decent Africa Scout Day celebration in your respective country.

Main Goal: Engaging more more youth in becoming responsible citizen.

Theme: Africa Scout jointly encourage peace, value and care of the enviroment for a Better World

Africa Scout Day Challenge
We invite Scouts to undertake the following activities as we mark this very important day.

• Sharing quotes from prominent African Scouts or Leaders associated who were Scouts.
• Nominate your Africa Scouting Hero (A Scout or a friend of Scouting who has made significant contribution to scouting in Africa) for recognition/mention during the main celebrations
• Identify and reach out to “celebrity” Scouts in your country who would endorse Scouts as “You Can Count On Us” active citizens. The “celebrity” Scouts could be captains of industries (e.g. successful entrepreneurs, leading businessmen, national leaders) who are former Scouts and who could speak from experience how Scouts have contributed to the betterment of the community/country through their efforts, etc.
• Create awareness on the African Youth Charter
• Submit an essay on the topic: “How Scouting Contributes to the Development of Africa.” We will publish the best essays on Kudumail and the www.scout.org/africa. All top five essays will also be published on the website. Please include your photo, age and name of your NSO.
• Undertake Community Service activities with the aim of showcasing the social impact of Scouting.
• Organize meetings, workshops and discussions with national leaders to promote the ideals and sprit of the OAU Resolution on Africa Scout Day - CM Res 1607 (LXII)
• Share the plans on how you will mark Africa Scout Day?
